Summer Fun For the Kids With Sponge Bombs

I am always looking for water activities to do outside since we do not have a pool. The summer heat can be miserable, but the kids still want to play outside. Saw an awesome idea on how to make sponge bombs. Simple, inexpensive, and guaranteed to be a hit with the kids!

Supplies you will need:

  • Sponges various colors
  • Zip ties
  • Scissors
  • Pliers
  • Nail clippers
  • And of course some H2O

Select a specific color or a variety of sponges. You will need at least 2 sponges per ball.

Next cut your sponges into strips. You can either cut them into thirds or quarters. Both will turn out just fine, however if you want your ball more full cut them into more pieces. For this one I have cut each sponge into four strips.

Stack your pieces in a pattern or just random.

Place a zip tie around your stack and pull tight. I used pliers to help pull mine as tight as possible. Then cut the end with a pair of nail clippers to get rid of the sharp end.

Your sponge bomb is complete! Enjoy sometime with your kids outdoors, each moment truly is a blessing.
