DIY Pinwheels for any Occassion

These pinwheels are so cute, easy, and fun to make.

What you will need:

  • Card stock paper
  • Buttons
  • Hot glue
  • Thumb tacks
  • Wooden dowel

First you will want to select your paper. If you are using a 12X12 paper you will be able to make 4 pinwheels. Cut the paper into four squares 6X6 in. Then take a ruler and draw a diagonal line from each corner, creating an X on the paper.

Next start at one corner and cut along the line stopping when you get to about one inch from the center. Continue to do this on all corners.

Start at one corner and fold the corners in, do no crease. Work clockwise around the square and I found that hot glue works best for securing in the middle.

Insert a thumb tack in the center of the pinwheel. I placed a small button on the back of the pinwheel pushing the thumb tack through one of the holes. Then push the tack into the wooden dowel. You could also use a chop stick. If you are not concerned about the pinwheel actually working just glue the pinwheel to the dowel.

These can be made for almost any occasion. I have made some for Cooper’s birthday party and some red and blue for Memorial Day and the 4th of July.
