DIY Paper Bead Bookmarks

Paper beads are so unique looking and can be made out of almost any paper. I have always loved paper beads and thought I would try to make my own. I will be making my beads out of old book pages. This great blog had easy instructions.

What you will need:

  • Paper
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Mod Podge
  • Toothpicks
  • Sponge brush
  • Epoxy
  • Wax paper

First select your paper. Use a ruler to measure how large you would like your beads. The small beads I will be making are 1/2in at the bottom and 1/8th in at the top. The larger leads are 1in at the bottom and 1/4in at the top.

Cut the pieces out.

Next use a sponge brush to coat with Mod Podge on one side only. This will be the inside of the bead.

Use a tooth pick and roll the paper tightly.

I used Loctite Epoxy to seal the outside of the beads. This will make them glossy and durable.

Make sure to mix the Epoxy well or the glue will not set right.

Wear gloves when coating and just note that any brush you use will need to be discarded when finished.  After the bead has a coat of Epoxy then stand the bead up on an end to prevent one side of your bead from being flat. Set the beads on wax paper for easy removal. The beads will need to dry for 24 hours to be completely cured.

Now that your beads are complete it is time to get creative.

For the bookmarks I used some hemp twine and beads.

I also made a bracelet with some clear elastic and plastic beads.

These beads can be used for numerous projects. Please post below with any projects you have made with paper beads.
