DIY Melted Bead Sun Catcher

I saw this really cool idea on Pinterest on how to make your own sun catcher. I thought these would look really great in our yard. These are so simple to make and a great project for the kids.

What you need:

  • Beads of all colors
  • Metal pan
  • Oven

I do have to warn you. This project is very smelly and the fumes are not good to breath. If I ever did this project again I would use a toaster oven outside. I had all of the windows open and fans on and I still felt like I could throw up from the smell. Please keep this in mind before starting this project!

I purchased a one pound bag of assorted colored beads at JoAnn’s. These are semi clear, I think these work best.

For my sun catcher I decided to use clear, green, and blue beads. Start by arranging the beads in the bottom of a metal pan. One layer of beads is all you will needed.

After the beads are covering the bottom of the pan place it in the oven at 400 degrees for about 20 minutes.

As you can tell there are a few holes in mine, however a little longer in the oven would have fixed this. I actually used one of the holes to hang it up. Otherwise you would need to drill a hole for hanging.I love the way this looks hanging in the trees outside. So cute and different!
